Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins has been hobbled for weeks having injured his foot in the Chiefs’ Week 9 win over the Cleveland Browns. Watkins tried to play through the injury in the next three games including Week 11’s Game of the Year漏 against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football in which he played just five snaps. Even into this week at practice Kurt Warner Color Rush Jersey , Watkins attempted to push through it until he was shut down by the Chiefs’ coaching staff. So with the playoffs looming, they’ve decided to shut him down for the next 4-6 weeks. What does this have to do with the Rams? Well, it could affect one of our upcoming compensatory picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Rams are set to receive up to four comp picks for the free agency exits of Watkins, CB Trumaine Johnson (to the New York Jets), S Cody Davis (to the Jacksonville Jaguars) and TE Derek Carrier (to the Oakland Raiders). The former two could fetch the Rams third-round picks Jared Goff Color Rush Jersey , the highest allowable comp picks, while the latter two are likely seventh-rounders at best. What complicates things is that the Rams’ trade for EDGE Dante Fowler Jr. involves our comp picks. Should we receive a third-rounder, that comp pick will go to the Jaguars instead of our natural pick which would be earlier in the round. So obviously, we want to be awarded at least one third-round comp pick to be able to keep the higher pick. The issue is that while comp picks are largely based on the contracts players receive in free agency, they are affected by playing time and a postseason awards. Could this blip in playing time push the comp pick for Watkins down to the fourth round? And remember that Johnson missed Weeks 5-13 for the Jets. Could his pick be downgraded? If the Rams don’t receive a third-round comp pick Orlando Pace Color Rush Jersey , we’d have to give the Jaguars our natural third-round pick. That would leave us with just our first-round pick before the fourth round...2019 NFL Draft LA Rams OrderRd#Rd#PickRd#Rd#PickThat’s our current draft order. The Rams’ second-round pick was part of the trade for Peters. The third-round pick is on the hook for Fowler, and the seventh-rounder was included in the package to send LB Alec Ogletree to the New York Giants. So let’s all wish Watkins a speedy recovery. For his sake and our own. With less than a month to the 2019 NFL Draft, there remains very little certainty for the Rams and the 31st overall pick."WhiteSections 2019 offseason2019 free agency2019 NFL DraftFull ArchiveLibrary 2019 NFL calendar2019 Rams regular season sched2019 Rams preseason schedMasthead Community Guidelines NFL Odds StubHub 鉁?019 NFL Draft2019 NFL Mock DraftsESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr., Todd McShay offer differing visions for Los Angeles Rams in new mockNew Deacon Jones Color Rush Jersey ,51commentsWith less than a month to the 2019 NFL Draft, there remains very little certainty for the Rams and the 31st overall pick.CDTShareTweetShareShareESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr., Todd McShay offer differing visions for Los Angeles Rams in new mockClemson Tigers Dexter Lawrence celebrates as Clemson wins the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship over the Alabama Crimson Tide, Jan. 9 Sean Mannion Color Rush Jersey , 2017.Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY SportsAs of today, the SB Nation mock draft database has measured out two favorite candidates for the Los Angeles Rams with the 31st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft: N.C. State Wolfpack C Garrett Bradbury and Clemson Tigers DT Dexter Lawrence:And a new dual first-round mock from ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr. and Todd McShay (ESPN+ subscription required) is only going to entrench that conventional wisdom even deeper. The dual mock’s value really comes in how they get through the first round moreso than their picks for the Rams. The two have identical mocks through seven picks, so the divergence at #8 and beyond is what offers some insight into what establishment mocks are looking at.So the writeups aren’t the most profound, but Kiper has the Rams going offense:While McShay goes with the defensive line:Put aside the silliness of assigning any value of a 5.05 40-yard dash for a defensive tackle (because it’s extremely silly). The two picks are sensible and hit on value. I’ve got nothing to argue with save for a preference to trade down , but if the Rams are absolutely sold on these guys and they feel certain that a trade down a half dozen or more slots would put them beyond the range to get their guy, you gotta do what you gotta do.For now though, the CW is calcifying in the form of Bradbury and Lawrence leading the way as the likeliest options for the Rams later this month.
